Return to Give Thanks
Scripture: Luke 17:11-19 (NRSVue)
After the Grateful Samaritan came back to say thanks, Jesus said to him, “your faith has made you well.” You can almost say in addition, “your gratitude made you well.” Scientific studies have proven this spiritual truth over and over. Gratitude drives out the toxic emotions of resentment, anger, and envy. Grateful people sleep better, are less depressed and tired, have lower levels of inflammation, and decreased risks of heart disease. Researcher Robert Emmons tells us that gratitude reduces stress, increases relaxation, and boosts our immune system. It has the ability to increase our willpower, relationships, spirituality, creativity, and helps our body heal and recover faster. Gratitude is linked to emotional health, lower anxiety and panic, longer life, and reduces risk of substance abuse in your life. Gratitude is a no brainer. Gratitude is the key that unlocks the door of joyfulness. Gratitude to God awakens us to the giftedness of this life. The more grateful we are, the more alive and human we are. The more spiritually attuned we are. Let’s follow in the footsteps of The Grateful Samaritan and fall at the feet of Jesus.
