How to Grow Your Soul
Scripture: Luke 6:31 (RNJB)
“Treat others as you would like people to treat you.”
Confucius said, “Never do to others what you would not like them do to you.” Buddha said, “A person who loves the self should not harm the self of others.” The Hippocratic Oath says: Do no harm. The Prophet Muhammad said, “not one of you can be a believer unless he desires for his neighbor what he desires for himself.” In the Golden Rule, Jesus emphasizes not just what we don’t do, but what we do do: treat others as you would like people to treat you.
In other words, be compassionate to everyone: freely, without calculation, and without expectation of return. No strings attached. Imagine what our world would be like if we took God seriously about keeping the Golden Rule!
