What Is Good
Scripture: Micah 6:1-8 (NRSVue)
Micah 6:8 has been called the Golden Rule of the Old Testament. The ancient Rabbis said of all the prophets, Micah did the best job of summarizing the heart of all the hundreds of God’s commandments given to Moses. Six hundred and thirteen commandments were delivered to Moses, but Micah reduced those 613 down to 3:
Do justice; love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.
So simple and yet so profound and challenging. These three action verbs require God’s grace and an entire lifetime of practice and perfecting. Justice, love, and humility is truly grace in action, and will bless others and ourselves by mending our world and filling our lives and world with more kindness and meaning.
