Scripture: Luke 18:9-14 (NRSV)
Two men go to the temple to pray. One, a Pharisee, faithful and well respected, reports to God all of his wonderful works and qualities. The second, a tax collector, despised and feared, beats his chest and begs to God for mercy. These two people couldn’t be more different, but are they alike in some ways? At the end of the parable, Jesus tells us the way to forgiveness is by being humble, like the tax collector, recognizing and owning up to our sin.
