The Ever-Present Presence

The Ever-Present Presence

Scripture: Psalm 139: 1-24 (NRSV)

Any small thoughts we have about God are blown to smithereens by Psalm 139. Here we see played out in real life God’s ubiquitous presence and the limitations of human knowledge. Psalm 139 puts us in our place—reminding us that we’re not God, but we are God’s beloved. The psalmist also shows us our Creator is not some “Clockmaker God” who designs the world, and then walks away, moving on to the next project. Instead, we learn that God is majestic and transcendent, intimate and immanent all at the same time. And this near and far God is an ever-present presence. God is already there, no matter where we find ourselves, even if we feel lost and alone. We are always together with God.
