Names of the Messiah: Everlasting Father
Scripture: Isaiah 9:6-7 (NRSV)
Paul Auster writes in his memoir The Invention of Solitude that, “You do not stop hungering for your father’s love, even after you are grown up.” Whether young or old, we all have a father hunger within us. And this is why the title Everlasting Father is so important for us. Everlasting in that we seek permanence. Solidity. Unconditional love—always by our side through thick and thin. Father, where our longing for protection, provision, forgiveness, guidance, and presence is filled. God in Christ runs to us and fills our father hunger and heals our father wounds. Everlasting Father.
