This study pushes us to discover how everything changed when God was born. Everything seems different during Christmas, we put lights on our houses, Christmas music floods our ears, apple cider and cranberry sauce are at the ready. Things just look, smell, and taste differently during the Advent and Christmas season, and these differences are a sign to us that God is about to do something radical and different. What signs do you see during the Advent and Christmas season that point you to the divine?
Class meets January 5 – February 16 (except for January 19)
God and Race probes the meaning of racial reconciliation and reveals how the church can be a positive and effective leader to move us forward, beyond hate and injustice, to equality and love. Believers often feel the words God and race don’t go together. We would rather talk about anything else other than race. But unless we start to have these open-handed conversations, we will never move beyond the “black fists” and “white knuckles” that leave so many of our churches divided today.
Class meets March 2 – April 13 (except for March 16)
In the Footsteps of the Savior is an invitation to come alongside bestselling author and pastor Max Lucado as he shares key teachings from the Gospels and Acts on the people and places that shaped Jesus’ life. Filmed entirely in the Holy Land, Max guides you through events that took place in Israel, weaving together lessons from the impact of following Jesus:
• Capernaum: following Jesus when you doubt
• Sea of Galilee: following Jesus in your storms
• Mount of Beatitudes: following Jesus when you worry
• Temple Steps: following Jesus…and only Jesus
• Garden Tomb: following Jesus when you need hope
• Caesarea: following Jesus when you need grace
As you see these places where Jesus actually walked and ministered, you will deepen your connection with the King of the universe who became the Savior on the cross.
Class meets April 27 – May 18 (except for May 11)
They are simple phrases. They sound Christian–like something you might find in the Bible. We’ve all heard these words. Maybe we’ve said them. They capture some element of truth, yet they miss the point in important ways. Join Adam Hamilton in searching for the whole truth by comparing common Christian clichés to the message and ministry of Jesus. The clichés include: Everything happens for a reason. God helps those who help themselves. God won’t give you more than you can handle. God said it, I believe it, that settles it. Love the sinner, hate the sin.
