What We Believe
Adopted by the Session May 2001
By God’s grace we are Immanuel Presbyterian Church (PCUSA).  We are the body of Christ and are called to demonstrate Christ’s love through our life as a congregation and as individuals. Our mission is to proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  We are committed to hospitality and we celebrate our richness of diversity.  We welcome all believers and seekers who, regardless of their backgrounds, wish to make the mission and message of Christ central in their lives.  We welcome those who, for whatever reason, have been marginalized by society.

Worship is the most important calling of our community of faith.  Proclamation of the Word of God, Confession, Forgiveness, Praise, Prayer, and Silence are integral to our worship.  Worship, through scripture, prayer, the celebration of the sacraments, and music reflects the heritage of our Reformed faith and is relevant in today’s world.

We are a teaching church and believe in life-long learning.  We communicate God’s story found in Scripture and seek to help children, youth, and adults grow in their faith.  Our comprehensive Christian education program enables people of all ages to relate their Biblical faith and Reformed theology to everyday life.

In the name of the servant Christ, we respond to God’s love by serving others throughout the world regardless of race or culture.  We serve in ways that are caring, life giving, and reflect the love and justice of God by addressing the needs of people who are troubled, poor, sick, lonely, homeless, discriminated against, or powerless.
We exhibit the joys and responsibilities of following Christ in our fellowship.  We demonstrate our love for one another by the quality of our common life in Christ: sharing in worship, fellowship, nurturing and practicing a deepened life of prayer and service under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.  We are bound together in the joys and crisis of life seeking to minister to each other in the Community of Faith.
Celebrating God’s abundance we seek to be a generous community of faith and to encourage generosity in Christ’s name by the giving of our money, skills, energy and time.  Our buildings will be used beyond our own needs to help serve the needs of our neighborhood and city.  We support the worldwide mission of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

As committed disciples, we respond to the call of the Great Commission to share the love and justice of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with all people, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Through our witness, we proclaim the life of Jesus to others, and through God’s grace, lead them to repent, believe and accept Jesus and new life as his disciples. We live our faith by sharing God’s abundant love and hospitality in welcoming and nurturing all people.

As Presbyterians, we affirm that we belong to the “larger Church” of Jesus Christ whose membership is drawn from across denominational, political and cultural boundaries. We seek ecumenical ministries with our brothers and sisters in Christ.
